Wordpress does it work as a CMS?

Ok I’m a bit one sided here (I generally believe Wordpress rocks) but I’m a realist. So I’ll tell you about its bad points as well as it’s good ones.

The Open Source comunity which surrounds Wordpress is enormous its probably one of the most supported pieces of software on the net. Because of this it’s updated regualy keeping the software upto date with the latest security patchs and the latest technology. (Ajax being the latest buzz in WordPress bring some impressive improvments.)

Not only does wordpress offer a secure, upto date platform for your CMS but also with such a large following add on’s and designs are easy to find and help with customising your own design or development is never far away.

But yep it’s first and foremost a blogging tool, the mear fact that Wordpress was developed originaly for blogging often exculdes it from being considered as CMS software. Don’t be blinded by this after all isn’t the principle requirement for writing a blog, that It must be easy to update and simple to use. And thats the first thing your looking for in a CMS.

I’m foremost a search engine consultant and wordpress is probably one of the most search engine friendly systems I’ve ever used to publish web sites barring handwriting the code you don’t get much better that this. The coding is normally to W3C standards (depends on the template you choose to use), this Semantic coding makes it easier for search engine to Index and associate keywords to your content. Unfourtunately it does have its downside in this area as well and you need to watch your the archives and post to avoid duplicate content.

I’ve just realised its 2 in the morning and this post is probably gonna run on a bit so I guess I’m gonna take time out to sleep and get back to this post in the morning.
